Rory Gallagher’s iconic 1961 Fender® Stratocaster® was his main stage instrument. They were inseparable and in every era of his career you can find an image of them together.
After the original pickups in his 1961 Fender® Stratocaster® gave out, they were replaced with a neck and middle from a 1974 Stratocaster® and a custom output, but no longer available bridge pickup…until now! These replacement pickups are made to the exacting specs as installed and last used by Rory except the middle pickup which has been made reverse wound/reverse polarity to aid in noise cancellation when used with a 5 way switch. If there is any Rory Gallagher replacement pickup set to have, this one is at the top of the list.
The 1961 Stratocaster® Rory kept as a faithful partner for decades was an exception to the plans to duplicate recipes old and new. Recreating its pickups proved to not be a simple task due to their unique qualities and how they interact with each other. Modifications, wiring variations and age required there be several batteries of tests and multiple trips across the Atlantic for the final samples that absolutely nail the sound, response and feel Rory’s 1961 Stratocaster® is known for. The specific mixture of components used to recreate the exact tone for this set made it impossible to recreate 2 distinct versions. This is the one and only version!
